Milk and Cereal – Interview w/ Donora
posted on Apr.11, 2010
Melissa Virzi will be interviewing the awesome trio Donora this Thursday, April 15th from 10 AM ’til noon! Be sure to check them out and always remember to tune in to 91.3 WTSR and open your mind!

Donora, a little band based out of Pittsburgh and named after another city in Pennsylvania, has been creating pure indie pop since being semi-finalists on “Calling All Bands,” a 2006 contest sponsored by Myspace and Verizon. Since then they’ve had tracks featured on various guilty pleasure MTV shows such as Engaged and Underage and Cribs. The twinkling pianos that start off songs like “Shh” and “I Think I Like You” only solidify the band into the adorable indie pop genre.

Songs of the Month – March
posted on Apr.06, 2010
She & Him – “In the Sun”
Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward deliver an infectiously catchy first single from their second album. It’s a breezy, summery song that is fittingly accompanied by a music video featuring choreographed dancing and hula hoops.

jj – “Let Go”
Another duo! This is a slow song that has a calming effect on anyone who listens to it. You will immediately get lost amidst the strings and light, haunting vocals.
Dum Dum Girls – “It Only Takes One Night”
“It Only Takes One Night” is a great electronic song. It gives a short, but fulfilling experience for the listeners. It is full of upbeat synth work and instrumentation and fuzzed vocals.
Free Energy – “Free Energy”
This song is full hooks and has a catchy tune. It will have you bouncing alone with the beat and singing along in your car or in the shower.
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – “Conscious Killer”
BRMC provided another great album with Beat The Devil’s Tattoo. Conscious Killer itself, hooks listeners from the start and straps them in for a great ride.
Broken Bells – “The Ghost Inside”
James Mercer of the Shins provides his recognizable falsetto while Danger Mouse provides his sick beats to make this a song that you just can’t help but bob your head to (or even do some pogo-ing!)

Ted Leo and The Pharmacists – “Even Heroes Have To Die”
One of the more poppy songs on the new album, The Brutalist Bricks , “Even Heroes Have To Die” is extremely accessible. The transition to the refrain is near perfect and is the main reason that this song works so well.
Jaguar Love – “I Started A Fire”
This is one of those songs that you close your bedroom door, hit play, turn up the volume, shout out the lyrics, and dance unashamedly to. If you need to release any pent up anger or just want to burn some calories, this is the song for you.
Boy Eats Drum Machine – “Syncopated”
This catchy tune will have you moving in one way or another. It is the epitome of Boy Eats Drum Machine music and will give you everything that you could ask for from this band.
Dinosaur Feathers – “Family Waves”
Dinosaur Feathers put out a great, poppy, upbeat album and “Family Waves” is the perfect example of their style. This track can make even the worst day feel a little brighter.
