Songs of Month – June
by music on Jun.18, 2010, under Music Reviews, WTSR
With summer in full swing your favorite Music Directors are here to rescue you with the June edition of Songs of the Month! Brand new tracks from station favorites like LCD Soundsystem and Broken Social Scene along with some newbies to the music world like Janelle Monae and Gayngs! You’ll be the coolest kid at all the festivals this summer with a playlist like this, we promise.
LCD Soundsystem – “I Can Change”
James Murphy singing about love? Count me in! This track has all of LCD’s dance-ability with it’s electronic beats, catchy hook, and smooth refrain. This is one of the standout tracks off of a standout album. I can change for you, James!

The National – “Anyone’s Ghost”
The smooth sound of Matt Berninger deep romantic voice is enough to sweep anyone up in his world. “Anyone’s Ghost” is easily the best song on their new album High Violet. This song is nice and slow, but with an excellent refrain and hook that will have you hitting replay again and again (as is the case with most National songs)
Broken Social Scene – “All to All”
Canadian band to end all Canadian bands, Broken Social Scene has something, and someone for everyone. Forgiveness Rock Record is just as good as their previous releases, and if there is one song that stands out on this excellent album, it would be the slow, melodic “All to All”.

Gayngs – “Cry”
If you haven’t listened to this new indie supergroup yet, then what are you waiting for? Station favorites Justin Vernon (of Bon Iver) and P.O.S. join forces here and the results are way more chillaxing than you might think. May I suggest starting with this relaxing and harmonious song?
Janelle Monae – “Tightrope”
If you need an upbeat song to dance along with, consider this R&B song featuring Big Boi (of Outkast fame) from Janelle Monae’s ArchAndroid. This song has a good beat and nice refrain that will have all but the most reserved and shy on their feet.

Club 8- “Be Mad, Get Ill, Be Still”
This is an upbeat but calming song with lyrics and instrumentation that will keep you hooked. The opening notes are perfectly crafted to draw listeners in and the rest of the song will not disappoint. The refrain is catchy yet melodic and very few will be disappointed by “Be Mad, Get Ill, Be Still.”
Tokyo Police Club – “Bambi”
Tokyo Police Club’s new album Champ is a very good album and Bambi is just one of songs that makes this album as good as it is. With great beats and a stunning hook that leads to a great chorus, this song is one that will make listeners very happy. Eat your hearts out.
