There’s something inherently magical about producing song straight from the human body. Maybe it’s just me, but whenever I come across songs that have clapping, stomping, snapping, whistling, or what have you, I get a little giddy (read: really damn giddy) on the inside. Beyond singing, these are the methods by which humans can make music without the help of any instruments. Whistling especially has a particular quality that adds this kinetic, honest energy to any song. For any fellow diehard Andrew Bird fans, believe me; it took everything I had to resist putting more than one of his infinite whistling songs on this playlist. But in this week’s installation of Listener’s Block, we explore the best whistling tunes that the world of indie alternative music has to offer. So go ahead, and press play. It’s okay; I won’t judge you if you inadvertently start whistling along.
