Music Review: Girls – Father, Son, Holy Ghost

Girls
Father, Son, Holy Ghost
Release Number: 2nd
Hailing From: San Francisco, California
Genre: Surf ‘n’ Roll
Label: True Panther
The Girls is a two person band consisting of Christopher Owens and Chet White. Their second album is sure to impress and entertain. The group’s first album Album offered many tracks full of grungy guitar riffs and a rough voice. Father, Son, Holy Ghost is distributed a different way with more soft instrumental and ballad-like tracks. Although, the album has a similar sound that fans will know and love, it offers a new perspective with variety that is sure to intrigue.

Tyler, the Creator
Goblin
Release Number: 2nd
Hailing From: Los Angeles
When I first listened to Goblin, I immediately reacted by starting to write a largely negative review, spurred on by my disappointment in the album. Normally, I allow myself a few listens until I come up with a justifiable opinion but I was convinced that I understood this album right away, and that it wasn’t what I was looking for.
Album Review: Fleet Foxes – Helplessness Blues

Fleet Foxes
“Helplessness Blues”
Release Number: 2nd
Hailing From: Seattle, Washington
Genre: Indie Folk
Label: SubPop
Way back in 2008, the Fleet Foxes released their self-titled debut album. They were a band who, at the time, had only two EPs to their name. However, those EPs received some critical praise. Yet it was nothing compared to the attention that they would receive for their debut album. The debut album and the 2008 Sun Giant EP were declared the best album(s) of 2008 by Pitchfork. With such a history of success, their 2nd album, Helplessness Blues, could have gone one of two ways. The high expectations could have crushed the Fleet Foxes’ new effort or it could have been absolutely amazing.
