⭐️This week’s Humans of WTSR post, featuring ⭐️This week’s Humans of WTSR post, featuring WTSR’s 2021-2022 Events Director Zach Rich!⭐️ “I would say, don’t be afraid of joining WTSR. I didn’t know where I would fit in for a while. I had public speaking problems for a while, and I was like “What the heck am I going to do if I don’t want to be a DJ? How do I get involved?” And I found my home at the station anyway. I went out, tried new things; I challenged myself to be an on-air DJ and it was one of the most rewarding things for me. It improved my confidence a lot. Everyone can find their own little piece of home here, and that’s what’s really so special about the station for me.” Zach Rich, ‘22, Computer Science major, was the WTSR Events Director from Fall 2020 through recent Spring 2022 e-board elections and has been an on-air DJ since Summer 2021. “The big things for me as the Events Director was primarily running the Events DJ Taskforce, but also organizing fundraisers for the station. I did apparel sales, the poster sale, and the ugly sweater sale.” Alongside this, Zach helped organize the virtual banquet in 2021, and also helped set up the in-person banquet this past April 2022. From his year and a half at the station, Zach has learned quite a bit. “I learned not just how to manage people, but how to manage my time and where my role stands in an organization. When I do my jobs and internships, it’s hard to see where I land, but here, being in charge of other people and running it, I really started to feel in control. I had to learn how to responsibly use that and how to organize all the parts of a whole division of a radio station.” Asked to describe the WTSR radio station in one word, Zach replied, “I’m going to say diverse because no two people have the same interests. You’re never going to run into the same kind of person. I know they say that a lot for radio stations -  it’s always people who are super into it for the music and for promoting the local artists; that’s a common thing. Everyone’s personality is so different here, and everyone’s interests are so different. I really fell in love with that.” Interview by Jenna Rittman, photography and graphics by Rachel Castria #tcnj #wtsr

This week’s Humans of WTSR post, featuring WTSR’s 2021-2022 Social Media & Web Director Haley Wright! “Collaborating with people on different projects. It’s just cool being in those meetings, planning future WTSR events, and seeing how all the staff and different areas of the organization have to come together." Haley Wright, '23, Interactive Multimedia major with minors in Spanish and Music Technology, speaks about what she likes best about WTSR. “For Underground, Julia, the Music Director, is in charge of getting all the bands. Then we have Social Media & Web posting all the sessions afterward. There are a lot of other people who help set up the bands and additional organizations [Lions Television] for the event. So, it’s just cool how everyone collaborates with each other and brings different skill sets together.” As the Social Media & Web Director for WTSR, Haley explains what she brings to the table. “I create graphics and post content for the station’s many social media platforms. We have Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and we also have a YouTube account, both for the station and for specifically WTSR’s Underground sessions. I’m also in charge of the website.” Out of this position, Haley has noticed an improvement in her ability to organize and be efficient, as well as increased graphic design skills. Haley has supportive words for anyone interested in joining and/or getting involved in WTSR. “Definitely do it! Yeah! I think it’s a great place to find people who are open-minded and supportive, but also you can find your own little niche, like where you really want to be because it’s such a diverse organization. It’s also a place where you can grow and learn. It’s a safe space.” Interview by Jenna Rittman, photography and graphics by Rachel Castria #tcnj #wtsr #openyourmind

Introducing Humans of WTSR, our new series featuri Introducing Humans of WTSR, our new series featuring the people behind TCNJ’s student-run radio station! Read below to learn more about WTSR’s 2021-2022 Station Manager Bess Jones! “I love the people, I love the environment, I love how the first time I walked into the station I was like, “It’s so fun.” The walls are bright blue, the poles are bright pink, and there are arcade games that don’t work. I don’t know if they’re just not plugged in or if they don’t work, but it’s so much fun. Even when I was a freshman, the seniors on board were really good about getting me involved. They asked “Oh, are you gonna' come to this? Are you gonna' come to social night?” I love interacting with everyone and it’s just a very fun time.” Bess Jones '22, Biology major, with Chemistry and Deaf Studies minors, held the Board position of Assistant Music Director and Executive Board positions of Program Manager and Station Manager during her 4-year tenure at WTSR 91.3 FM. With Station Manager being her latest position, Bess discusses her responsibilities. “I was running E-Board and the weekly Board meetings, a lot of coordinating with different people.” Alongside this, she organized recruitment events. Bess learned a lot from the positions she held at WTSR: how to talk to people more, how to present herself in a more extroverted way, how to lead and manage events, and... how to step back and understand that not everything is going to go the way she planned! Bess has only encouraging words for anyone interested in joining and/or getting involved in WTSR. “Do it! It’s so much fun, and there truly is something for everyone. One thing that’s nice about WTSR is that you can take it as it goes. You don’t have to absolutely commit to something right away.” If Bess had to describe WTSR 91.3 FM in one word, she would describe it as an umbrella. “I would say umbrella because there are so many different parts of it that make up the station. Like, I feel like the people are really the station, but because there are so many different kinds of people, I feel like there’s just so much that we do and that you could be a part of.” #tcnj #wtsr #openyourmind
