Getting Involved

Want to get involved with WTSR?

WTSR a completely student-run radio station that broadcasts out of the basement of TCNJ’s Kendall Hall. Our broadcast radius is approximately 25 miles around the campus and contains almost 800,000 potential listeners (and we stream online too)! We play mostly indie and alternative music, but we also feature specialty programming that covers a wide variety of musical genres from emo, house, reggae, punk, and everything in between.

DJ Training

Most students who get involved with WTSR become on-air DJs. This means that you have your own two-hour show to play music.

To become an officially licensed on-air DJ, you have to go through training. Training typically takes about six weeks and is split into two sections.

For the first three weeks, you’ll meet in a classroom once a week and learn all of the rules and regulations that you need to be an A+ DJ. You’ll also get to shadow current DJs and see how everything works firsthand. At the end of those three weeks, you’ll take a written test. Once you pass that, you move onto practical training! You’ll get to pick a show that you’ll stick with for three weeks and you’ll gradually be put on air. The first week, you’ll be on for about 10-20 minutes. The next, you usually do 30-45 minutes. And then you get to run a whole show by yourself.

After your practical training you’ll be given a practical exam. Pass this, and you get your DJ licence and your own show on air!

DJ classes are typically held at the start of each semester. Follow WTSR on Facebook and Twitter to stay updated.
